I think I've found a few more tunes I like in this one over the first, but that's going to be a matter of personal taste. If you have never used a "Real" book - it's the 'head' (melody) with a basic chord structure over the top. They label "verse" and "bridge" rather than the traditional "A", "B", "C" sections. I'd ding it it half a star for that, but that's from me coming from Jazz Forms.All the songs are good, the chords are reasonably accurate (there may be one or two off here and there, but nothing I'm going to get worked up over - you're never going to get exact when you're trying to condense multiple instruments into one line). If you're trying to work out a solo guitar arrangement for these songs (ie: you want to play the song for your buds at a tailgate or party or whatever) then this is going to be perfect for you.If you want the _exact_ notes played by the artists on the specific take they used on the specific day they recorded to make the specific studio version that got the radio airplay, you're going to have to look elsewhere. Myself, I love chord books. Chords give me freedom: I can play what's written, make "family" substitutions (G9 for G7, Gmaj7 for G, etc...), tritone substitutions, altered chords, play it straight, jazz it up, ... in short - I can make it my own. That's what Real Books (and Fake Books) let you do.Quality of the book itself: I'm not a huge fan of the plastic comb bindings. When I buy a music book (or any book for that matter) that has a normal binding I want to lay flat, I take it to Office Max, pay them $5 or so, and they put a heavy duty spiral binding on. Much easier to use and much more durable than this: you can't fold this all the way over on itself so you need a reasonably wide and sturdy stand. You've got to be careful flipping through the pages here, that's what dinged a star.Other than that the book is solid: the pages are thick enough to write on (since you'll want to mark your own substitutions and whatnot), and the book is solid without weighing a ton. It's held up well enough with me paging through it sight-reading tunes more or less at random. It also includes rhythmic notation at the start for steady patterns or 'signature' rhythm/riffs.Are there songs I'd like to see included that aren't here? You bet. Are there songs in there that I could live without? That too. But if you asked thirty musicians, you'd get about forty different answers as to what should stay, what should be cut, and what should be added. I do hope they put out a volume 3, which surprises me a bit since I'm usually not a fan of series like these 'dragging out', but there are just so many songs that fall under the very large "rock" umbrella that there's no shortage of good material. Even if I personally picked every song there'd be enough for three or four volumes that I would use.
Best price I could find on-line for this book. The series of Real Books from Hal Leonard is great as they condense the arrangements down to 1 or 2 pages so you never need to turn the page to finish a song. Even better they break down most songs into Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge and Outro which makes it much easier for me to learn them.
