Stage fright has always been a big thing with me. The idea of getting up in front of a group of people who have never seen you before [or worse yet, the people who know you] and delivering some kind of speech that hopefully won't put them to sleep. So when it comes to public speaking, I totally get what this book is about. I like the author's approach to delivering a quick, very useful read to build up your confidence for getting out there and just doing it. There are lots of anecdotes and some humorous stories to explain the author's experiences growing up that I could relate to.Stage Fright is the book you should read before your next stage appearance. It is jovial, entertaining, and teaches you the basics of how to present yourself no matter what background you come from or what your fears may be.A Definite Gem!

I highly recommend Cody Smith's recent work on public speaking. I work a lot with students at the undergraduate and graduate level and even those who have been required to take public speaking class still get the butterflies or have mini meltdowns before they walk into a conference setting or have to present in front of an 8 person class. Smith's work is perfect because he shares his own personal experiences with public speaking, including some of his failures. We've all told "that joke" while speaking and felt the terror when no one laughed. This guide to better public speaking will appeal to many because of it's empathetic undertones and understanding of why our nerves emerge before and during public speaking engagements and how to fight them. I highly suggest this book to professors who teach students who will go on to the conference circuit and be expected to speak or lecture often---regardless of the course's actual subject matter. This is something that all students need in their back pocket for either now or the future. It is certainly a book that will make it's appearance on the majority of my syllabi.

It is impossible to not be a courageous and confident speaker after reading Stage Fight! If speaking in public gives you the chills, this book will help you punch your fears in the face and guide you step by step to ultimately look forward to speaking in public!Cody Smith is such a great and humorous writer and his style of writing made this book such a fun-filled informative read. Throughout this book you can be assured of a joyful ride of laughter while digesting on both transformative and therapeutic goodness. This author does not hold back, but relentlessly dishes out years of research, trial and error and ultimate victory from his own personal experience. Masterpiece resource, highly recommended!

In the book, Cody Smith mentions that this was his first book. I just want to say that I think he has a talent for writing in a way that is easy to follow, understand, and keep your attention. I have always had issues with public speaking much to the degree that he describes in his own life. Hearing the stories of his experiences and specific issues really resonated with some of my own stories. In several chapters he gives specific exercises to complete in order to identify your fears/mindset/weaknesses and tips to overcome them. I did these exercises aloud as suggested, shared the responses with my wife.. and just as he described we all got a laugh out of it and really just enjoyed the whole experience. The author is genuine throughout the book and you can tell that he really understands how hard this subject is for some people. I have already began to implement some of the tactics he has suggested. If you have issues with public speaking this book is definitely one to read and keep within arms reach.

This book reads like a long, over-drawn blog post. The author spends too much time focusing on the unimportant aspects of the points he's trying to get across, and starts the book with a warning that he's not a professional speaker. Most of his thoughts are unoriginal, he asks readers to use the "why" method and spends the majority of the book rambling back points he's read in Tony Robbins books. I'm not sure what possessed him to write this book, or consider himself an authority on the subject, but I would recommend choosing another author with a more reputable background on public speaking.

I really enjoyed reading through this. What was most refreshing was how it was not written in a way for the author to brag about his accomplishment and explain a bunch of unnecessary approaches to mastering the skill of public speaking; rather, it felt like you we just having a conversation with the author. Very easy to follow and it was nice how it was broken down into simplistic steps that focus on small accomplishments in a steady fashion. Best part was reading through the chapter on “Facing Your Fears” and saying out loud that “I give myself permission to such”! If you are looking for a guru book to tell you how magical it is to succeed, this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for an honest and actual approach to help you understand how you personally can overcome your feelings on public speaking and learn how to improve yourself, then this is the book you should be reading right now! This book could apply to anyone from a kid trying to prepare for class presentations is school to the professional briefing their boss.

Where do I start? This book is amazing. While I haven't had too many problems with public speaking this has definitely helped shine light in areas of just confidence and fear in general and how to tackle it essentially. I love the little anecdotes about his life growing up and how it connects with the lessons he teaches throughout the book. Personally the bit about how babies don't give up in trying to learn to walk so why should we as adults let failing be a stopping point?
